Beyond Talks Program is a youth-led initiative that inspires, educates and empowers youth through panelist conversations and discussions to acquire relevant information on HIV/AIDS, Behavior Change Communication, Adolescent Health, Sexual Reproductive Health and Sexual Transmitted Infections/Diseases to become key informants and health champions in their communities. The program brings together professional health experts, young leaders in civic leadership, change agents, HIV/AIDS positive youth as well as activists, among other youth leaders as guest couch speakers to develop young people’s leadership skills, talents and abilities. We conduct trainings for youth (Peer Corps) to champion HIV prevention together with other Action Team Volunteers within their communities.
We aim at providing youth with leadership to lead and advocate for their sexual health rights and HIV prevention.
The program operates in Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono, Buikwe and Jinja districts of Uganda.
Youth are engaged in dialogues exploring HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention, Sexual Reproductive Health, Sexual Transmitted Diseases, Adolescent Health, Behavior change communication, Life skills and Leadership skills. Youth discuss prevention strategies, support each other and share experiences to lead better their fellow youth with relevant information.
After the dialogue engagements, youth leaders are selected and trained in different topics including; HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention, Sexual Reproductive Health, Behavior Change Communication, Leadership, Life Planning Skills, Project planning and management. These youth come out as Peer Corps within their communities and schools to champion HIV prevention among other health problems.
Youth leaders conduct a project within their schools and communities through which they form The Haven Club to spot other young talents, acquire Action Team Volunteers, provide career guidance to their fellow youth, create youth platforms to express their views and advocate to influence policies.
