Teenage AIDS Orphans is an orphan centered program that supports, inspires, empowers and trains young people infected and affected with HIV and AIDS in soft skills to create a sustainable livelihood for themselves to access education. We work towards strengthening these children’s education through the provision of Scholastic and Health Materials to prevent new HIV infections, early marriages and teenage pregnancies. We conduct trainings in soft skills, provide psychological support and basic needs, support orphans with bursaries, nutritional supplements to HIV positive orphans and HIV Prevention interventions to young people. Through this program, we run the “Eggs for Education project” and “Child Craft project” to ensure that orphans and vulnerable children in the most disadvantaged communities progressively realize their rights to survival, health, education, protection and participation.
Our goal is to address the entire child-focused educational and health status through care and support to improve the well being and maximize their opportunities for learning.
The program operates in Buikwe district with over 250 AIDS Orphans.
Program Activities include;
We fundraise for school fees to Support Orphans and Vulnerable children. Join our individual donors with a $50 per month. Presently we are supporting 26 AIDS Orphans with school fees. You’ll connect with the sponsored child for counseling and mentorship.
Provision of Scholastic and Health materials: Every school term, we provide exercise books, pens, pencils, reading books, reading charts, and sanitary towels to girls thereby keeping them in school.
Young people are trained in soft skills that result into income generating activities and through these, they sell and earn a living as well as support themselves.
HIV awareness and prevention interventions through MDD: Increased knowledge on Sexual and Adolescent Reproductive Health, HIV and AIDS and talent development.
Children’s Parties: Having fun with their friends to reduce stigma and discrimination
Eggs for Education Project:
Eggs for Education is an income generating project developed for child-headed homes, foster parents, community members and the orphan school (Seven Hills Education Center) to improve the livelihoods, nutrition and funding for the education of AIDS Orphans. The project provides chicken to homesteads that lay eggs for sell and to improve on nutrition for HIV infected children. The project also intends to build a chicken house at the school premises of over 500 chicken to use as an additional resource for business education and agriculture classes. After primary level education, these children will be well equipped with skills to sustain themselves as well as continue to secondary education with ease.
Child Craft project:
This project aims at using practical life skills and soft income generating activities for AIDS Orphans to change their livelihoods and create long lasting sustainability. We train children in handicraft making like beads, sandals, necklaces, bracelets, among others, that we sell to earn a living. Through these crafts, we create messages that inspire these children to finish school, and become responsible persons within their communities.
