AnitaB.org is pleased to announce a call for nominations for the 2023 Abie Award to celebrate and highlight the success of women and non-binary technologists and those who support them in technology.

Recipients of each Abie Awards are honored at the Grace Hopper Celebration as they recognized their incredible talent and hear how women and non-binary technologists are changing the world through technology.

Abie Award Categories for 2023

  • New Award! Tech in Government: The Tech in Government Abie Award highlights the work of a woman or non-binary technologist within the federal government in the U.S. who has worked behind the scenes in improving governmental services through technical innovation and modernizing the functionality of government. The technologist is a public servant who serves everyday Americans and has been working within the U.S. federal government for 5+ years.
  • Technical Leadership: The Technical Leadership Abie Award is their most prestigious award and celebrates a woman or non-binary technologist who led or developed a product, process, or innovation that made a notable impact on business or society.
  • Student of Vision: The Student of Vision Abie Award recognizes and celebrates an undergraduate or graduate student who has a unique vision of how technology innovation can solve important problems, and how inspiring more women and non-binary people enable meaningful innovation.
  • Social Impact: The Social Impact Abie Award recognizes those making a positive impact on society through technology. Nominees may have developed technology that caused social change or empowered underrepresented peoples.
  • Educational Innovation: The Educational Innovation Abie Award in Honor of A. Richard Newton recognizes educators for developing innovative teaching practices and approaches that attract female students to computing, engineering, and math in K-12 or undergraduate education.
  • Emerging Technologist: The Emerging Technologist Abie Award highlights the creative ways women and non-binary technologists confront problems and seek solutions. They want to celebrate women and non-binary people who are still early in their careers and have the potential to shape the future of their fields for years to come.

Funding Information

  • Technical Leadership Abie Award: Recipients will receive $50,000.
  • Student of Vision Abie Award: Recipients will receive $15,000.
  • Social Impact Abie Award: Recipients will receive $15,000.
  • Educational Innovation Abie Award: Recipients will receive $15,000.
  • Emerging Technologist Abie Award: Recipients will receive $15,000.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nominees are able to nominate themselves for an award.
  • You can nominate someone from your own company for an Abie Award.
  • You do not have to currently work with an individual to nominate that person for an Abie Award. Nominators should be able to provide information on the nominee’s body of work but do not have to have the same employer. They encourage Nominators to nominate mentors, mentees, industry peers, etc.
  • All Abie Awards are currently for individuals.
  • Nominators can submit multiple nominations for the same award, as well as submit nominations to more than one award. However, they encourage submitting thorough nominations over multiple nominations (quality over quantity).
  • Nominees must be 18 years of age or older by the start of the annual Grace Hopper Celebration that the award they are applying for will be presented at. To be eligible for the 2023 Abie Awards, nominees must turn 18 years old no later than September 26, 2023.
  • Nominee must speak English fluently enough to deliver an acceptance speech, and all nomination forms must be submitted in English.
  • They welcome and encourage submissions from outside of the United States for all awards.
