Story of a Champion – Fighting & Advocating for Sickle Cell
At the peak of COVID-19, Nassanga Shadiah was providing regular voluntary awareness and medical support for families affected by chronic diseases and rear illnesses with much focus on children. This work was done voluntarily together with her friends. In 2022, she met Habitation for Empowerment Network to support her in building an organization to meaningfully support sickle cell patients most especially children in the slums of the country. Through the Strategic-Technical Support, we trained her in organization management and Malaika Children Initiative (MCI) was registered as a local Community Based Organization. MCI works closely in collaboration with other CBOs working within the same priority sectors.
