Applying for this fund secures financial support and connects applicants to a global network of youth leaders, mentors, and capacity-building resources.

What is the Youth Empowerment Fund (YEF)?

The Youth Empowerment Fund (YEF) is a global funding initiative supporting youth-led solutions that address pressing local and global challenges. It is a partnership between the European Union and the Global Youth Mobilization, which brings together six leading youth organisations worldwide. YEF aims to empower young people from diverse backgrounds to implement local projects, promote climate action, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability, and enhance youth participation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Who Can Apply?

YEF welcomes applications from Individual Young People and Informal Groups: Age 14 to 30 years, projects should benefit local communities and align with the SDGs, eligible for micro-grants of €500–€1,500. Registered Youth-Led Organisations: Must be formally registered as youth-led, eligible for grants up to €5,000 for larger initiatives. Priority Applicants include young people from under-represented or vulnerable communities, individuals affected by gender-based barriers, disability, socio-economic challenges, or climate change impacts.

Why It Matters

Supporting youth-led initiatives ensures equitable access to funding, helps marginalized youth implement local solutions, encourages creativity and community-driven impact, allows young people to influence project selection and evaluation, and provides grants with mentorship, workshops, and global networking opportunities.

What Projects Are Eligible?

YEF funds initiatives that directly contribute to one or more Sustainable Development Goals, address community-level challenges such as climate action, social inclusion, and gender equality, and empower youth-led groups or individuals to create measurable local impact. Examples include environmental clean-up or sustainability projects, educational programs targeting marginalized youth, health or accessibility initiatives for people with disabilities, and community-based climate resilience actions.
