RootCures Women Community Gardens
RootCures Women Community Gardens are urban gardens designed for aged stay-home women to use their limited spaces in their backyards to grow nutritious plants and herbs that manage as well as cure different diseases. They grow Kale, spinach, broccoli, collard, turnip greens among other vegetables. Herbs include garlic, turmeric, ginger, among others.

These women are former street vendors that were chased away from selling farm produce on the streets of capital city of Kampala, Uganda. Our urban gardens are now growing crops that are being supplied to local supermarkets and restaurants directly. As well, these farm products are used by these women to challenge Menopause symptoms. Without Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT), the women use nutritious plants and vegetables to challenge these menopause symptoms. The women also plant local herbs that can be used as medicine to treat certain diseases like stomachache, headache, etc.
We conduct monthly trainings in different methods of urban farming, plant relevant crops including vegetables, and learning the value additions to the produce to eliminate waste. Women have also learnt the use of waste materials to make fertilizers and using the waste polythene as their new gardens.
Our goal is to provide agri-business skills to women to increase their food security, household income generation leading to self-sustainability. We are looking forward to start building small Green Houses to upgrade our gardens so that we can produce organic plants for export.
Our future Goal:
We are looking forward to building community green houses that produce organic vegetables and herbs for medicinal purposes, as well as food security in the households. We will train women in our community on the new forms of urban farming to maximize on the little spaces within the semi-urban places. We hope you’ll help us out by making a generous gift as you can. Even $5, $10, $20, $50 or $100 can be lifechanging to the lives of these women. To make this happen, Just Click here – DONATE
